How to use the Dog Breeding Protocol Simulator
This quick guide shows the main steps. You can open it any time using the How to use this tool button.
1) Choose breeding type
- Cross breeding (by breed): select two or more breeds.
- Straight breeding (by individuals): select one breed and results show ancestry by individual dogs.
2) Select breeds and load data
- Click breeds in the list (no Ctrl/Command needed).
- Click Load selected breeds.
- The Breed Genetics Summary table shows n (dogs in database), mean F, and mean kinship (mK).
3) Select dogs for breeding
- Scroll to Reference Populations.
- Click in the Select column to choose dogs from each breed.
- Your selected dogs appear under Design Crosses.
4) Choose parents and run a cross
- In the Selected Dogs table, pick one dog as Parent 1 and one dog as Parent 2.
- Click Run cross.
5) Read the results
- Each cross creates a new result panel (F1, F2, …).
- Cross breeding panels show composition by breed.
- Straight breeding panels show composition by individual ancestors (parents, grandparents, etc.).
- Tables are color-tinted to match the pie charts for quick interpretation.
6) Print / Save PDF
- Click Print / Save PDF, then choose Save as PDF in your browser print dialog.
- Use to simplify layout for printing (keeps the whole page).

Select your breeds and the app will automatically load the matching Individuals and Kinship files.
Reference Populations
Select dogs for breeding by clicking in the Select column. Use the search and filter controls to narrow down your selection.
